What should I looking for in subwoofers?

-What is more important in purchasing subwoofers, rms watts, peak watts, or brand name? I have done about a weeks worth or research and gained a good amount of knowledge on subwoofers. But the last question I need answered is the one stated above. I have found subwoofers that say 500 watt rms, 1000 watt peak, but is that going to produce good bass? Will the brand hold up?

Thank You very much in advance for answering

PS: My budget for two 12"s, amp, box, wiring kit is around $300-400RMS is the only number regarding wattage that matters ("Peak" is a made up number). Brand is important for everything from sound quality to longevity. For $300-$400 for everything I doubt you would be able to get a system that is both loud AND durable. A more realistic cost for quality amp/subs/box/wiring would be around $600-$800.I have a kicker 12 CVR that not only hits hard and low, it is smooth and doesn't distort the mids/highs. I had two kenwoods that hit VERY hard but drowned out the music completely. As far as power goes, anything above 500w is unnecessary. I have 350w and I have out bassed guys with 1000w+. If you are looking for low, clear bass (which is what I suugest), Get 2 Kicker CVRs or COMPs with a 500w Alpine amp. I promise you will be VERY satisfied.
Rms. Cuz that's what it can handle all the time. It can do up to 1000 but it can't handle a constant bump like that. So if u got a 1000w rms amp on two 500w rms subs ull be good. But if u go higher (rms) on amp u could blow ur subs
