-So, originally i enrolled in University of phoenix for homeland security, because it was a sure thing, and its accredited.but recently, alot of my friends have been coming to me, to help wire and install car audio systems. Today, my friend called me to help him, and he pulled brand new black mustang into my garage. I literally wired it, installed two 12" mtx subs, and a 1200w amp in less than two hours. and i started thinking. thats what i love to do. and i dont mind the work, and time put into it. But every tech school i look at, isnt accredited. and seems kind of sketchy. This is something i love, and i feel like i would be really good at. I have no clue how to get started into this kind of industry. All I ever known was law enforcement, and military. My whole family has a chain of military, and law enforcement. thats why i got into homeland security. but i really love working with car audio, and sound systems. ANY kind of help at all would be so awesome.I don't wanna steer you away exactly, but I will forewarn you that it is HARD to make a living as an installer. Back in the 90's being an installer was a full-fledged career...good installers could make 60-80K. REALLY GOOD installers could probably make over 100K, now the only installers making that kind of money work at high-end shops and are car audio jack-of-all-trades doing all sorts of crazy wiring, fiberglassing, custom fabrication etc. If you get a job at a mom-and-pop shop you'll probably make about $100-$150 a day (once you know what you're doing)...if you work at Best Buy or somewhere like that you'll start at about $11/hr and peak at about $18/hr once you're highly valuable and MECP Master-Certified. I don't know about any "schools" exactly...if you still want to pursue a job as an installer, your best bet would probably be to get a job in car audio sales (at a place that does installation) and try and work your way back to the installation bay.
Don't get into homeland security either...we need to get rid of that f*ckin department ;-)Check out liberty university.
I know a lot of people that switched from university of phoenix to Liberty university online.
